2013 CD CHRISTMAS IN NORWAY
The St. Olaf Choir, with 75 mixed voices, is the pioneer a cappella choir in the United States. For more than a century, the St. Olaf Choir has set a standard of choral excellence and remained at the forefront of choral artistry. In December of 2005 a television special titled “A St. Olaf Christmas in Norway” was watched by more than 3.8 million viewers in the United States. In June of 2013 the St. Olaf Choir returned to Norway for a tour that celebrated the ensemble's first visit to the Scandinavian country in 1913. During the tour, conductor Anton Armstrong and the St. Olaf Choir once again joined forces with the Nidarosdomens Jentekor to film a new Christmas program that will be aired on public television in December 2013 to more than 300 stations nationwide.

2013 DVD 100 YEARS: ST. OLAF CHOIR IN NORWAY
In June of 2013, the St. Olaf Choir embarked on a centennial tour that retraced the steps of the ensemble’s 1913 journey to Norway. 100 Years: The St. Olaf Choir in Norway takes viewers on the road with the choir across the best that Norway has to offer. Highlights include a visit to the U.S. ambassador’s residence, performing for a royal audience member at the Oslo Konserthus, traveling through the heart of the Norwegian fjord region, homestays in Snåsa (birthplace of college founder Bernt Julius Muus), the famed Nidaros Cathedral in Trondheim, and other cultural connections between St. Olaf College and Norway. The documentary features many of the pieces performed on the tour, interviews with Conductor Anton Armstrong ’78 and students, spectacular views of Norway, and a few surprises. Join the choir as they travel through Norway on this unforgettable journey.

LEGACY OF ALICE T. LARSEN

The Manitou Singers 1957-1983

Alice T. Larsen (1929-2004) was a professor of music at St. Olaf College from 1955-1989. She was conductor of the Manitou Singers, taught voice, vocal pedagogy and occasionally directed the St. Olaf Choir. The contents of this album were collected and assembled by the Minnesota chapter of the American Choral Directors Association to raise funds for a scholarship benefiting female choral conductors studying at the graduate level. This audio is taken from performances from 1957 to 1983 and the recording quality will reflect the technology of that time.
