Kierkegaard on Becoming and Being a Christian

The nineteenth century Danish theologian/philosopher Kierkegaard still receives attention. His writings about the three fundamental existences - the esthetic the ethical and the religious - are well-known. Many differences of opinion exist over the interpretation of the relationship between these three ways of life. Is there discussion about the progression and transition of the one to the other ways of life here, or is it about alternatives that question choices and developments? The Korean theologian, Seung Goo Lee, has risked a thorough analysis of the texts that describes the relationship between the ethical religious spheres of existence - in particular the Christian existence. In this study, an adaption of his dissertation, he convincingly exhibits how the Christian position in the thinking of Kierkegaard stands for a qualitative change of existence. He analyzes the fundamental changes in the field of ethics, both the personal understanding and the acquisition of knowledge. Lee does not only supply a contribution to Kierkegaard research, but he also furnishes a better understanding of Kierkegaard for the actual theological practice in the field of epistemology, Christology, the relation between God and the world and the existential character of Christian theology.
